Different Type of Anxiety Several different types of illnesses are considered an anxiety disorder. These include obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Any of these may produce mild to severe panic attacks. This can feel like a sudden feeling of fright with a racing heart that can feel much like dying might feel. It can happen for no apparent reason. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder OCD or obsessive-compulsive disorder is a condition that causes people to repeatedly do something. In example, a fear of germs may cause someone to wash his or her hand several times repeatedly. Repeating behaviors is another sign of someone with OCD. He or she may feel the need to open and shut doors or drawers in a specific way for a particular number of times. The problem is that this disorder is not something that the person can will them self to stop doing. They feel this urgent need to continually wash their hands or open and shut a door a particular number of times. Phobias Phobias are anxiety disorders that cause panic attacks for many people. For instance, the fear of spiders is arachnophobia. When someone suffers from arachnophobia, he or she may be afraid to have a spider on them. He or she may not be able to enter an area knowing there is a spider around. Sometimes even viewing a spider photo can bring on a terrible fright. This is the number one type of phobia. Ophidiophobia is the fear of snakes. Being around snakes may cause someone to have a panic attack. Acrophobia is the fear of heights, it is a common disorder. This disorder can cause anxiety when someone tries to climb a flight of stairs or a few rungs of a ladder. Agoraphobia is the fear of leaving home; it is another anxiety disorder that is common. Some find it difficult to understand. However, forcing someone with this disorder out of home can trigger a severe panic attack. Generalized Anxiety Disorder Generalized anxiety disorder can be devastating since it can be chronic in nature. Tension, stress, worry and sometimes nothing at all can trigger this illness. Social Anxiety Disorder This is the extreme fear of doing something embarrassing in front of others. It is common for many people. Those that suffer from this type of anxiety disorder will avoid any situation that triggers their anxiety. They suffer from feelings of not being able to cope. Often their levels of anxiety are so high that it causes the public humiliation they fear the most. Conclusion Anxiety disorders are highly individualized. They are common and can become serious when someone suffers with extreme feelings of fear. Treatment options, of course will vary depending on the individual. |
